Are there certain roads drivers in Greenville should avoid?

On Behalf of | Nov 25, 2024 | Car Accidents

Driving is an inherently dangerous activity. Traveling in a motor vehicle exposes people to the risk of a crash. Not only can people make mistakes, but they can also cross paths with those who have their phones in their hands or who are under the influence of mind-altering substances.

Many of the most significant factors that contribute to crash risk are outside of a driver’s control. However, there are some risk factors that drivers can directly influence. The routes that they travel are among the controllable factors that contribute to their overall crash risk.

When looking at collision statistics, there are some roads that are far more dangerous than others. What roads may Greenville area drivers want to avoid if they hope to minimize their chances of a collision?

3 roads account for a large number of wrecks

When looking at both the overall number of crashes and how many crashes result in death, a few streets scanned out as far more dangerous than most others. Over two-fifths of the crashes causing injuries or deaths in the last five years have occurred on less than 5% of the miles on local roadways.

Woodruff Road is the third most dangerous road in the area. In five years, there were 192 crashes and eight traffic deaths on Woodruff Road. Several of the worst crashes reported on this road involved cyclists.

Pleasantburg Drive is the second most dangerous road in the area based on crash rates. There were 225 crashes leading to six fatalities on N. Pleasanburg Drive. As with Woofruff Road, several of the reported fatalities involved cyclists.

The most dangerous road in Greenville is Laurens Road, specifically between I-385 and Woodruff Road. There were 228 crashes and eight fatalities reported on that 2.7-mile section of Laurens Roads. Five of the deaths reported involved cyclists.

Drivers may want to plan their routes to bypass these streets whenever possible. Cyclists may also want to take note of how dangerous these roads are for those on bicycles in particular.

Regardless of where a crash occurs, the people involved may have the option of seeking compensation. Filing an insurance claim or a personal injury lawsuit can potentially help those affected by a motor vehicle collision cover property damage and injury expenses.
